Renting a Nation-managed home is a shared responsibility. Before submitting an application, prospective tenants should understand what is expected of them as members of a housing community.
Tenants are expected to pay rent on time every month. Rent is due on the first of each month. Late or missed payments affect your standing as a tenant and the department’s ability to maintain and invest in housing for the community.
Tenants are responsible for keeping their unit clean and in good condition. This includes reporting maintenance issues promptly rather than letting them go unaddressed. Damage beyond normal wear and tear is the responsibility of the tenant.
Tenants are expected to be respectful neighbours. This means keeping noise at a reasonable level, maintaining the area around your unit, and following the Nation’s housing policies.
Pets are permitted with prior approval and a signed Pet Tenancy Agreement. A pet deposit equivalent to half a month’s rent is required.
If you have questions about whether you are eligible to apply or what the process involves, contact the Housing department before submitting your application.
